Our Mission

At Rugged Coast Expeditions, our mission is to provide you with an unforgettable adventure experience that connects people with the story of this place and this place with the story of you. We purpose to educate, infatuate, ignite curiosity, and initiate the discovery of the amazing life on this coast.

We believe that adventure tourism helps humanity reawaken to the life fostering systems that sustain us. We believe that exposure to the beauty of this untamed coast greatly impacts the human spirit. This results in a sense of peace and ultimately value and appreciation for the tapestry of life surrounding us and inside us. Beauty points us to a story bigger than ourselves. Our mission is to discover our place in that story while learning a whole lot, gaining new skills, and enjoying the adventure that calls us seaward.

We practice a sustainable tourism ethos and aim to create a positive impact on the environment and local communities while showcasing the beauty and diversity of the places and creatures we visit.

Meet The Guide

Our Team

Owner operator Captain Matt is a long time experienced and passionate guide.

Matt is a mariner, naturalist, adventurist, history lover, violin player, philosophy lover, animal lover, outdoor educator, and story teller. From search and rescue, to commercial fishing, to marine rescue, to grizzly bear and whale tours, Matt enjoys a colorful history on the water. His weather beaten skin is rough like a crustacean but his passion for life is big like a cetacean.

What We Offer

Our Tours

Located in the Powell River/Qathet region, RCE offers adventure education and wildlife tours via zodiac that cater to all types of interests. We travel on a one of a kind ex-military custom RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat).

Our most popular tours are 2-2.5hr duration and will include wildlife viewing + education, anthropomorphic history, geography and geology pertaining to the areas we explore. All of our tours are designed to be fun, educational and one of a kind.

Multiday Expeditions will be available for booking next season. These trips will take adventure education to the next level. Please stay tuned via our social media and website for updates.
